Hanmer Springs Hot Pools

Hanmer Springs, Hurunui District

Hanmer Springs is one of New Zealand’s most visited attraction with over 650,000 visitors each year.  Our concept was to abstract the surrounding mountain landscape of rivers, pools, falls and local plants so that people could enjoy an indigenous landscape.  It is a New Zealand response to a natural phenomenon rather than one whose character has been copied from overseas.  Elements include streams, pools, waterfalls, 600 tonnes of rocks, paving made specifically to alpine colours, timber beams for seats, pergolas for shade, North Canterbury plant material and bridges. WINNER: NZILA Enduring Landscapes Award, 2019.
